Building on Tuvalu’s Coastal Adaptation

TCAP1B is the next chapter in one of the Pacific’s flagship climate adaptation programs. Building directly on the success of the TCAP1A design, the project will deliver a further 4–5 hectares of raised, flood-free reclaimed land along the northern section of Fogafale’s central lagoon shoreline.

The works will protect an estimated 465 metres of densely populated foreshore in Tuvalu’s capital from storm waves, erosion, and inundation intensified by sea-level rise.

TCAP1B extends climate-resilient reclamation and coastal protection along Fogafale, building on earlier phases of the Tuvalu Coastal Adaptation Project.

 

Intercoastal’s Role

Engaged by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Intercoastal is delivering the concept and detailed design for the reclamation and coastal protection works, supporting implementation to international standards and in accordance with UNDP environmental and safeguard practices.

Intercoastal’s role extends through contract management and construction supervision of major dredging, reclamation and coastal structure works — seeing the design through to delivery on the ground.

 
 

From design to delivery

The TCAP1B design brings together coastal engineering, reclamation and coastal protection to create new, elevated land while strengthening the resilience of Fogafale’s vulnerable lagoon shoreline.

Intercoastal’s involvement across both design and delivery provides continuity through the project lifecycle — from concept and detailed engineering through to contract management and construction supervision.
