Northern Fogafale Emergency Works (Akimoa Coastal Protection)

A 520-metre stretch of Northern Fogafale's main road — Te Auala O Tuvalu Road — is regularly flooded by lagoon waves overtopping the Akimoa shoreline during storms and elevated water levels. The road is the lifeline connecting Fogafale's Northern Arm to the central village, providing access to food supplies, medical services and the port, and the recurring inundation threatens the longevity of the road itself.

With funding from the Government of Taiwan, the Government of Tuvalu engaged Hall Contracting under a Design and Construct contract to protect the Akimoa lagoon shoreline. Intercoastal provides the coastal protection design services to Hall, and assists the Government of Tuvalu with construction supervision and contract management through implementation — a true design-through-delivery partnership in a remote atoll environment.
