As surfer populations grow and pressure mounts on the Gold Coast's natural surfing resources, the City turned to Intercoastal to review the rapidly advancing field of land-based surf amenity (LBSA) technologies. The study — supporting the City's world-first Surf Management Plan — identified and assessed the full range of commercial wave-generation systems, and applied a SWOT and multi-criteria assessment across environmental, economic, social, regulatory and legal factors relevant to the Gold Coast.

We presented successful case studies including URBNSURF Sydney and Waco Surf, mapped future trends and innovations, and delivered recommendations and site-selection guidelines to inform potential future LBSA development — data, design and innovation applied to the future of surfing.
